Illegal Alien Crimes

Despite the death and destruction already wreaked by Harris’s crisis, we are still learning the true scale of the devastation. Many crimes go unreported to law enforcement or by the media. Horrifyingly, below is only the beginning of how Harris’s crisis is hurting people in Michigan.

  • Democrats in Michigan are failing to protect Americans from the illegal immigrants and drugs pouring across our Southern Border. 
    • Democrat polices have created sanctuary areas across the Wolverine State in places like Lansing, Ingham County, Kalamazoo County, Kent County, and Wayne County.
    • Under Governor Whitmer, Michigan’s Department of Labor & Economic Opportunity is offering $500 per month to residents who agree to house illegal immigrants, “newcomers,” in their homes.
  • Illegal immigrants are taking advantage of Harris and Biden’s immigration system to victimize Americans across the state. 
    • In March 2024, Brandon Ortiz-Vite, a 25-year-old illegal immigrant from Puebla, Mexico, killed a Michigan woman in a drunken carjacking attempt.
      • 25-year-old Ruby Garcia of Grand Rapids, Michigan was found dead with apparent gunshot wounds.
    • In March 2024, Two girls under the age of 13 were sexually assaulted by an illegal immigrant who broke into their home, threatening to kill them if they screamed or tried to escape.
    • In February 2024, Luis Fabian Bernal-Sosa, an illegal immigrant, was convicted of murdering a 22 year old woman in Kent County, Michigan.
      • At the time of the murder, Leah Gomez was sitting inside her car with her 1-year-old daughter.
    • In October 2023, it was reported that criminal gangs from central and south America were targeting high-end homes in Oakland County, Michigan to commit burglaries.
    • In October 2023, four men who were in the United States illegally, were charged with committing multiple smash-and-grab robberies at a mall in Troy, Michigan.
    • In 2023, Axios (Detroit) reported that Democrats in the Michigan House and Senate reintroduced the Drive SAFE (Safety, Access, Freedom and the Economy) package, which would allow undocumented individuals to obtain Michigan driver's licenses.

Fentanyl Statistics

  • The Fentanyl epidemic stemming from our Southern Border has had a major impact on Michigan communities.  
    • The number of opioid overdose deaths in Michigan grew by 31.5 percent from 2019 (2354) to 2021 (3096).
      • In 2021, 73.8 percent of Michigan’s drug overdose deaths involved fentanyl.
    • Since Harris took office as vice president, roughly 27.8 tons of fentanyl have crossed the southern border, enough to kill roughly 12.6 billion people.                              
  • Media outlets across the state of Michigan have been forced to take note of the drug crisis sweeping the state. 
    • In 2024 in Berrien County, Michigan, detectives found and seized suspected drugs including 180 grams of fentanyl, 92 grams of crystal methamphetamine, 7 grams of crack-cocaine, and a semi-automatic pistol.
    • In January 2024, over 60 grams of fentanyl and 100 grams of cocaine were found in a Covert, Michigan home.
    • In 2023, it was reported that The Drug Enforcement Administration was worried about the high rates of drugs being moved through Southwest Michigan.
      • “In the last three years, Michigan State Police have had two seizures of amounts that they say would normally be seen in border states. Brian McNeal, the DEA Detroit division public information officer says there is also an increase of the drug being mixed with fentanyl.”
    • The Detroit Field Division of the Drug Enforcement Administration confiscated 1,168 pounds of fentanyl in 2023, 70% more than it seized the previous year.
    • In August 2023, it was reported that drug overdose deaths remained an epidemic, with hundreds of lives lost in West Michigan each year.
      • “Southwest Michigan has lost 183 lives this year to drug overdoses, Pazder said. Most of them involved fentanyl. The region is on pace to hit nearly 300 by the end of the year.”
    • In May 2023, it was reported that fentanyl is now involved in the most overdoses in Kent County, Michigan. 
      • “‘In 2015, fentanyl was involved in less than 20% of opioid-involved overdoses’ in Kent County, Jantz said, ‘and in this last year in 2022, it was involved in 91%.’”
      • “In 2022, 81 Kent County residents died of a fentanyl overdose, often in conjunction with other drugs.”
    • In April 2023, seven people died and 10 were hospitalized in the Kalamazoo area for overdoses caused by a batch of fentanyl-laced cocaine.
